You are the only one in control of your happiness and success. True statement, but what many people struggle with is how to maintain and create daily peace and happiness. This takes consistency and incorporating the following habits.
So what does it take to be genuinely happy? For some of you, money may have popped in your mind, or finding love and having perfect health. Maybe happiness means freedom to you or a vision of being famous with an amazing career and beautiful family.
Happiness is not something that just happens. It is not something money can buy or power can command. It is not dependent on outside events, but more importantly how we view these events.
Follow these five secrets to happiness and you will see a whole new world of opportunity, happiness and success in you life.
1. Surround Yourself with Happy People
If you’re surrounded by positivity, you’ll feel it. People who fill their lives with other happy individuals are proven more likely to find their own bliss. You have the ability to choose the people you surround yourself with. So choose the ones who lift you up instead of those who bring you down.
We are happy when we are surrounded by family and our friends and believe it or not almost all the other things we think make us happy are actually just ways of getting more family and friends.
Write out a list of the people you enjoy spending time with and plan your time with them in advance. Don’t forget to share your feelings with those people you care about. Speaking up and communicating openly is a major step to a life of happiness.
2. Live in Gratitude
Create a gratitude journal with one great experience you had each day. Journaling about one positive experience you’ve had over the past 24 hours allows your brain to relive it and appreciate everything in your day, even the small stuff.
By taking time to appreciate smaller pleasures, happy people spend more time admiring the world around them. Gratitude is an extremely powerful task that increases happiness. Lastly, reach out to someone that you care about and say why you are grateful for them.
3. Give to Others
Give your time, money and knowledge to others and you will notice elevated levels of happiness.
By simply performing a random act of kindness you will notice a shift in your happiness. It doesn’t matter if your act of kindness is buying a coffee for the person after you in line, volunteering, or sending a positive email and thank you card to someone.
4. Meditate on It
We find that meditation allows your brain to get over the cultural ADHD that we’ve been creating by trying to do multiple tasks at once. It allows our brains to focus on the task at hand.”
Soon after meditating we experience feelings of calm and contentment. It does not take much time in your day but doing meditation regularly can rewire the brain to raise happiness levels.
If we can find a way of become positive in the present, then our brains work even more successfully as we’re able to work harder, faster, and more intelligently.
5. Work It Out
Many research studies show that exercise, even if it’s after a few minutes of working out, releases proteins and endorphins making us happy! Exercise is also a great way to focus better and raise your self-esteem and confidence.
People who exercise regularly are generally more productive, create better sales figures, have more secure jobs, are better at keeping their jobs, are more resilient, and have less burnout.
Happier people are more productive. Way more productive. Today, take a proactive approach to creating happiness instead of waiting for happiness to happen!
